Setting Up The Pixma MX870

Canon includes a Getting Started Guide along with the driver or software CD to help users through the installation process.

 

The guide takes users through connecting the phone line, connecting power, installing the print head and ink cartridges, loading paper, setting up fax reception, and selecting connection type.  From there, users will insert the CD-ROM containing drivers, applications, and the user manual. 

 

The CD includes the Canon Easy Install wizard or users can choose to take a custom approach if they know in advance they aren’t interested in downloading all the included extras.

 

The fax machine was easy to use thanks to step by step instructions during installation. You will not have any problems getting the MX870 to fax to your office machine and vice versa. 

 

With the MX870, you do have the option to set the printer to fax only or use it with a working phone line (as in you would use it to make and receive calls).  There are three speed dials on the control panel and Canon includes small stickers for indentifying each.

I got this for $129.99, but this printer is awesome, nothing bad other than the fact that it makes a large noise when printing, but I can enable silent operation mode and hopefully make it more silent. I had to reboot my system 2 times before I actually completed the setup. The whole setup takes from 20 to 30 minutes, not too long. Also doesn't have to be connected to the modem or the computer any more, because this printer can connect to the modem by itself!
